The Academy

Learn. Play. Grow. Lead.

The Open World Academy is the youth learning path inside The Philadelphia Scroll With Purpose Initiative — built inside a North Philadelphia gaming center, taught by mentors who know the neighborhood by name.

Four Tracks

Choose your door in.

Every track runs the same underlying framework — Algorithm Awareness Training™ — with a different way in. Youth start where they're already curious.

01

Player to Leader

Esports and gaming as a first door into teamwork, strategy, and technology careers. Practice nights, team play, and mentor debriefs.

02

Creator

Media production and content creation. Youth move from consumer to creator on the Center's 18-station floor and leave with a real portfolio.

03

Bridge

Digital literacy and eLearning built around Algorithm Awareness Training™. Youth learn how the feed works and how to work it.

04

Builder

Entrepreneurship and workforce readiness. Résumé, interview, and digital-professional skills that connect gaming and content skills to real Philadelphia opportunity.

Age Bands

Age-appropriate on purpose.

Each band gets its own room, its own mentors, and its own rhythm. Nothing about this is one-size-fits-all.

Early teens (13–15)

Introduction to attention, safety, and the algorithm — through play.

High school (16–18)

Deeper AAT™ training, esports teams, and the first Builder Portfolio work.

Young adult (19–24)

Workforce readiness, certification track, and paid apprenticeships on-site.

Weekly Rhythm

A steady week.

Consistency is the curriculum. Youth know what's happening every week and who will be in the room.

Mentor check-in

One-on-one with the same mentor, every week.

Track session

Esports, content, eLearning, or workforce — the youth's chosen door.

Scroll With Purpose™

Cohort session on that week's phase and Compass move.

Open floor

Free play at the Center with mentors present.

What They Leave With

A portfolio, a mentor, and a plan.

Every member leaves the Academy with a Builder Portfolio, an AAT™ Identity Card, a named mentor, and a next step — apprenticeship, cohort leadership, or a workforce placement with an Initiative partner.
