Attention is identity infrastructure
What a person looks at, over time, becomes who they are. Attention is not a preference — it is a formation process.

Open World Gaming Center presents
The Philadelphia Scroll With Purpose Initiative
A Digital Awareness Public Health Initiative
Open World Gaming Center — in partnership with The Philadelphia Scroll With Purpose Initiative — built a technology education system in North Philadelphia that teaches youth how to navigate the algorithm and use it to build their future.
Leading technology education initiatives describe the goal this way:
"Technology becomes a mechanism for deep instructional change where students and teachers learn from one another."
The Philadelphia Scroll With Purpose Initiative was built to deliver exactly that — from the community up, before anyone asked.
It began inside a gaming center in North Philadelphia.
The algorithm is not neutral. We built the response.
Open World Gaming Center operates a community-based Digital Awareness Public Health Educational Framework, supported by Algorithm Awareness Training (AAT). The framework connects technology education, public health, and community engagement to help people navigate the algorithm-driven world with greater awareness, confidence, and resilience.

More than a gaming center. A community technology hub.

Competitive gaming as a pathway to teamwork, strategy, and technology careers.
18 computers. Structured digital education. Youth learn by doing.
From consumer to creator. Youth produce media, build portfolios, and develop digital professional skills.
Digital awareness to career readiness. The Scroll With Purpose curriculum connects gaming skills to real Philadelphia opportunity.
A safe space in North Philadelphia where youth are known by name, not by algorithm.
This is where the Philadelphia Scroll With Purpose Initiative was built. This is where it runs. And this is where we are scaling it across Philadelphia.

What a person looks at, over time, becomes who they are. Attention is not a preference — it is a formation process.
Recommendation systems optimize behavior. Mentors optimize development. Only one of them cares who the person becomes.
Without a mentor, without a rule, without a compass, attention drifts toward whatever holds it — and identity follows.

Every person moves through five levels of digital awareness. The goal isn't to shame the Drifter. It's to walk them, on purpose, toward Builder.

Scholars studying attention, identity, and digital environments.
Cities and neighborhoods — starting with Philadelphia — building the mentor layer.
The 12-week Scroll With Purpose™ program teaches the framework in practice — for students, mentors, families, and organizations. Identity follows attention. This is how you direct it, on purpose.
